A former colleague of mine said it eloquently . . .
"He said that he was raised in Alexandria (Minnesota), as a Republican.
He went to college, and he went into the military.
He left home and saw the world, and was
touch personally by tragic loss.
He came home years later, to care for his
elderly parents.
He said he was so grateful for all that he had experienced,
because those experiences helped him open his eyes.
He said, as he looked objectively at the two political parties, Republicans and the Democrats,
he finally did see a glaring difference.
He said that the Republicans are concerned
about the things that directly have an effect on themselves and those like themselves,
things that are of benefit to them personally.
He said the Democrats are concerned with how things affect not only themselves but others,
especially those less fortunate than themselves,
the poor, the young, and the elderly,
the low- and middle-classes.
The Republicans aspire to privilege and protect the
wealthy.
The Democrats look upon wealth and privilege as a responsibility."
